Abstract

This research aims to explore the role of pesantren journalism in the contestation of religious radicalism narratives in the digital era. The method used is qualitative analysis with a case study approach to several pesantren media in Indonesia. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with pesantren journalists, media content analysis, and participatory observation. The results of the research show that pesantren journalism plays a significant role in disseminating moderate and inclusive Islamic perspectives, offering alternative narratives different from mainstream media and radical groups. The findings also identify the main challenges faced by pesantren journalism, including limited access to technology and funding. The conclusion of this research is that empowering pesantren journalism through technological and financial support can strengthen deradicalization efforts and promote pluralism values in Indonesia. This research makes an important contribution to the field of media studies and religious studies, and opens opportunities for further research.
