Abstract

In the era of globalization and increasing climate change, education is the main key in shaping responsible environmental awareness and behavior. This study aims to empirically determine the effect of transformational leadership on pro-environmental behavior of high school students in Jakarta. The type of research used in this study is quantitative research, while the method used is the survey method. The research sample is high school students in Jakarta. Sampling was carried out by multistage random sampling, namely stage (1) purposive sampling selected North Jakarta, Central Jakarta and South Jakarta. Next, stage (2) random sampling selected SMA Negeri 40 North Jakarta students as many as 177 people, SMK Negeri 16 Central Jakarta as many as 154 respondents, and MA Negeri 11 South Jakarta as many as 222 respondents. The total number of research samples was 553 people. The data analysis technique was carried out with descriptive analysis. The research instrument of pro-environmental behavior is the General Ecological Behavior Scale (GEB), while the transformational leadership research instrument is the leadership scale. The results showed that transformational leadership has a significant effect on students' pro-environmental behavior, where inspirational and motivational leadership styles, supported by a supportive learning environment, effectively encourage students to increase their awareness and involvement in environmental sustainability practices. Furthermore, the findings underscore the importance of a supportive and collaborative learning environment in promoting pro-environmental behavior. The implications of these findings for theory and practice are the strengthening of the transformational leadership model in environmental education, as well as encouraging the implementation of more inclusive and holistic educational strategies that integrate aspects of transformational leadership. This study contributes to the influence of transformational leadership on the pro-environmental behavior of high school students in Jakarta. Suggestions for future research need to consider the expansion of other variables that affect pro-environmental behavior.
